Milestone: Mildred Stringer celebrates 100th birthday




MORENO VALLEY –
Mildred Stringer celebrated her 100th birthday May 27 at Integrated Care Communities in Moreno Valley, where she lives. The event was attended by about 40 family members and friends, including two of her sons, William and Glen Stringer.

Mildred was born in Orange County on May 31, 1905, to Sherlina and Martin Luther. She had a brother and a sister. Her father was a farmer and her mother was a cook for hospitals and boats.

As a young woman Mildred took care of her father and grandfather and had a roadside stand selling flowers, fruits and vegetables. Mildred met her husband, Caesar, at his dairy store, where he worked for three years before becoming a contractor. He worked on the family farm in Chino on weekends. He passed away in 1978.

Mildred enjoys cooking for the staff and residents of Integrated care Communities. She likes to collect recipes and to read. She also collects books to share with her neighbors.

Her family includes four sons, William Stringer, of Nuevo; Glen Stringer and Jim Stringer, both of Huntington Beach; and the late George Stringer; a daughter, the late Ada Flemming; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
